In 1886 Bairei published a three-volume picture book entitled Bairei Gafu (i.e., Picture Album by Bairei). The first two volumes included pictures of flowers and (or) birds while the third volume substituted insects for birds. The twenty-five pictures in volume one are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Bairei drew the shapes of flowers and bird/insects accurately but he used color sparingly (i.e., only shades of gray and reddish highlights). Pictures were oriented horizontally instead of vertically, as in most of his other picture books. To see all pictures in volumes one and two click here.
